The Production of Public Transport in the Metropolis of Buenos Aires. Recents Changes and Future Tendencies

This work analyzes recent changes in the public transport system of Buenos Aires metropolitan area with the purpose of establishing a relationship between transport policy and changes in social conditions and territorial structures. First, current mobility requirements are defined, examining the metropolis internal structure and dynamics. Then, the production logic of the public transport policy in the area is analyzed, recording the changes occurred in the service since the full privatization of its management. Last, the new profile of operators and their management strategies is featured. The work concludes that the metropolitan transport has undergone structural transformations led by the natural commercial criteria of operators, given the state's passive attitude which jeopardizes the public service nature of the inhabitants future mobility.Downloads
