Abstract

In the central region of Mexico, where the great national metropolis is located, the principal industrial states underwent, during the eighties, a severe economic crisis that led to a process of industrial restructuring, a cutback in immigration, a striking rise in emigration, and therefore a negative migratory balance for the region. In the first half of the nineties, however, those states and the region as a whole partially recovered their economic and migratory dynamism.
