Abstract

During this past decade, Buenos Aires has experienced important socio-territorial transformations that directly or indirectly relate to those examined and exposed in texts covering Í€œglobal citiesÍ€. The following article analyzes these changes, showing particular characteristics that have effected Buenos Aires and focuses on those processes that have cast profound transformations over the metropolitan Í€œsocial mapÍ€. Considering both central city areas as well as the vast metropolitan region, special attention is placed on the suburbanization of the Í€œelite groupÍ€ that during the 1990s has become a rapid and intense process in Buenos Aires. However, this process seems to occur later in time when compared to the time similar processes took place in other American and Latin American metropolitan areas.
