Abstract

This tribune proposes urban communication as a tool for analysis and cultural transformation of cities. It suggests that urban communication allows for reaching inclusion processes at a relational level by (re)configuring shared imaginaries and empathic experiences related to functional diversity or disability. First, the notion of disability is presented as a problem of perspective, to then address the imaginaries about disability that can be perceived in cities. In a third moment, the corresponding relations between accessibility, inclusion, and public space are established. Finally, we expose how urban communication could fulfill the purpose of socio-culturally including people in conditions of disability, to life in the city.
