Abstract

This article analyzes a set of conflicts and social mobilizations that have taken place in Latin America from a perspective that focuses on their causes, generally associated with changes in the distribution of benefits and burdens generated by productive practices and territorial interventions; but also on their effects, particularly their potential social utility. Drawing on a corpus of works published in the EURE Journal, the article reflects on how the conflicts and mobilizations addressed in these texts participate in the process through which public problems are constructed. It also highlights the contribution of the reviewed works to the study of urban and socio-environmental conflicts in Latin America, as well as the analytical innovation they bring.
