Abstract

The structural change that conditions the competitive strategies of the different actors playing in the urban agglomerations have produced important but contradictory effects on the economic base, functional specialization, job market and territorial organization, with a quick expansion of limits and new internal contrasts. This paper shows a theoretical review on economic and spatial changes in metropolitan spaces and a general analysis of the recent evolution in Madrid, the location of different activities and the new ways of spatial unequality.
